Former Siquijor congressman, guv laid to rest

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor, May 21 (PIA) – The former governor and congressman from the province of Siquijor, Atty. Orlando B. Fua Sr., was finally laid to rest on May 21 after passing away on May 11 at the age of 89.

A necrological service was offered at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) in Siquijor, Siquijor at 9:00 a.m., with Provincial Board Member Meynard Asok reading the SP resolution to express condolences and sympathy to the family of the late public official.

Asok also delivered his eulogy and thanked the Fua family, on behalf of all the elected officials, for their many years of service and their contributions to the growth of Siquijor.

"Salamat sa inyong gihatag nga kalamboan sa isla sa Siquijor (Thank you for the development of the island of Siquijor)," Asok said.

In response, the late governor’s eldest son, also the former governor and congressman Atty. Orlando "Shane" Fua Jr., thanked the current government leadership for the funeral service.

"Despite the chasm of politics that divides us, salamat sa provincial government nga giaynan ta sa nagdumala sa lalawigan aron bisan sa katapusang higayon, makasud-ong si tatay niadtong balay nga iyang gitukod (We thank the leaders of the provincial government for allowing my father to ‘glimpse’ the place he built, even for the last time),” he said.

Fua also acknowledged the supporters and all the Siquijodnons for their love and appreciation for his father, as well as their contributions to the province of Siquijor.

"Everyone of us has their own part to play. We contributed our individual commitments in order to make the island what it is now," he said.

A Holy Mass was held at St. Isidore the Farmer Parish in Lazi, Siquijor, at 2:00 p.m.

Interment followed at the Fua’s private cemetery in Lazi with another funeral rite, where gun salutes were also accorded to the Fua’s late patriarch. (RAC/PIA7 Siquijor)
