Navotas encourages city filmmakers to join the 5th Navoteño Film Festival

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The city government of Navotas announced through its Public Information Office (PIO) that the conduct of the annual Navoteño Film Festival is set to continue this 2023 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

The NFF is designed to serve as a platform for young and talented aspiring filmmakers to harness their potential in sharing a story that will tap deep into the untold social realities and unseen perspectives of communities.

The 5th holding of the film festival is said to be the first open category which allows all bonafide Navoteño filmmakers, either amateur or professional, to participate in the competition that previously employs a school-based format.

The theme of this year’s film competition is “Navoteña, Nangunguna: The role of Navoteñas in power and decision-making” in line with the City Gender and Development (GAD) Council’s gender sensitivity and equality awareness campaign.

Only one (1) entry per participating filmmaker is allowed and the authorized representative of the production must have the registration form stamped by the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Office to verify their residency.

The narrative film can either use English or Filipino language of storytelling and must run 8 to 10 minutes in length including the opening and closing credits.

While all genres are accepted, the local government reminded the filmmakers to be mindful of the diverse age groups in presenting their narrative content to ensure its wide viewing reach.

An NFF Committee is tasked to review the screenplay pitch of the participants before they can proceed with the production process.

The local government has already started accepting entries last May 15 and the submission is open until June 15.

Winners of the filmmaking competition will receive cash prizes according to their placement of which P30,000 is set for the 1st placer, P20,000 for the 2nd placer, and P10,000 for the 3rd placer. This adds to the P5,000 cash prize for the Top 10 finalists.
