VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — Some 138 cardiovascular nurses from private and general hospitals all over the country joined the 22nd Annual Convention at the La Casa Blanca Hotel in Calle Crisologo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur  on Friday, May 12.

The nurses convened to learn updates on cardiovascular health, and share their insights among their group in pursuit to advance the said practice in the country.

With the theme: "Expanding Beyond Frontiers of Cardiovascular Nursing Care," the nurses attended the one-day convention where four topics were discussed by speakers from different national nursing organizations and entities.

The topics discussed were Cardiovascular Nursing: Achieving Competent Practitioners, A Transformative Disruption: Reimagining Nursing at the Grassroots, Prevention of  Vascular Access Prevention Complications-Infection and Thrombosis, and Advanced Practice Nursing: What Lies Ahead.

Joyce Ubaldo, cardiovascular nurse from the Philippine Heart Center and one of the participants, expressed how great of an opportunity it is to join the convention.

She said, “Very excited ako kasi after the pandemic, syempre ito na iyong first time na magkaroon ulit tayo ng opportunity to gather.”

“Aside from makita ko iyong other members ng society, [I am excited na] matuto. Mahalaga kasi na magkaroon ng updates especially noong nagkaroon ng pandemic parang na enclosed lang tayo with COVID-19, napabayaan natin na may iba ring diseases, especially number one sa mortality morbidity natin is ‘yong cardiovascular diseases,” she explained.
