Sea trips in Masbate resume as weather improves

MASBATE CITY, Masbate (PIA) -- The station here of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has allowed all vessels to travel from the local ports after the state weather forecasting service dropped its gale warning for the waters off the island province Tuesday evening.

Lieutenant Edgardo R. Aguilar, PCG commander for Masbate, said all vessels sailing off Masbate or cruising to another island of the province were allowed to resume their normal operations.

On Monday, May 29, Aguilar started suspending trips of small vessels, including high-speed ferries or fastcrafts weighing 250 gross tons after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of strong winds and turbulent waters.

Wind speed faster than 45 kilometers per hour whipped up waves that slammed with a splash taller than a house.

No incidents related to the gale warning were reported to the Masbate Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. (PIA5/Masbate)
