Gandamra: Islam highlights preservation, stewardship of env’t

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Just as he champions the protection of Mother Nature, City Mayor Majul Gandamra maintains that although he is not a religious scholar, he is totally aware of the fact that Islam even backs advocacy promoting the preservation and stewardship of the environment.

Because of this, he emphasized even more how important it was for the Muslim community to work together to preserve everything that the Almighty Creator had brought.
"It is, indeed, our responsibility to take care of Allah’s creations, and by doing so, we are taking care of ourselves and others. We, therefore, need to be understanding of this responsibility," said Gandamra.

The mayor reiterated that fostering natural resources is a responsibility not just of the government but of everyone in the community.

He reminded everyone that topics regarding the environment should be seriously noted by all people around the globe, including Maranaos.

As Gandamra emphasized, this would have a significant impact that the entire society would feel.

Nonetheless, he was positive that they could overcome environmental challenges, especially if his brothers and sisters would be one with him in his aim.

"This is a wake-up call for us, Maranaos and Muslims, to recognize climate change as a threat to a good quality of life and even in peace and order. Inshallah, we will do better if we are together, armed with better knowledge," said Gandamra. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
