La Union joins PH Environment Month celeb

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-La Union spearheads the celebration of Philippine Environment Month in the province this June.

With this year’s theme: “No to Waste: Advancing Circular Economy to #BeatPlasticPollution”, the DENR calls for inclusive participation to combat plastic pollution.

In an interview over Tugstugan at Balitaan on June 1, Jesley Angelo Marinas, environmental management specialist of DENR-La Union, urged the public to continue the mission to conserve and protect natural resources despite the challenges the province face.

"Magkaisa po tayo kasi lahat nang ating ginagawa ay para sa future generations na maging sustainable ang ating environment for the good of all humanity,” said Marinas.

As part of the celebration, the DENR-La Union will conduct a coastal clean-up activity at Barangay San Vicente, in this city on June 5  which coincides with a tree planting activity at Barangay Basca in Aringay town.

Over a radio interview dubbed "Tugstugan at Balitaan" on June 1, Jesley Angelo Marinas, environmental management specialist of PENRO La Union, together with Mark Darrel Salvador of the same office, urges the youth to be agents of change towards a clean and healthy environment.

Aside from these activities, “tianggehan” or cultural bazaar will also be launched on June 19 to 21 to showcase up-cycled crafts.

The month of June was proclaimed as Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 237 to highlight actions toward the conservation and protection of the country’s environment and natural resources. (JCR/AMB/KJCR/HSS, PIA La Union)
