DICT-XI, ICT Davao's skills training generates unautomated jobs

DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology Region (DICT) - XI and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Davao declared to work closely together to generate more jobs for the people in the region.

In a media press conference at the opening of the National ICT Month, ICT Davao president Xavier Eric Manalastas said that they will collaborate by organizing ICT skills training.

This move is to counter the advent of Artificial Intelligence technologies and upskill unautomated jobs such as business analytics, creativity, cyber security, sustainable operation, and environment management.

"Our goal is to generate 150,000 jobs in IT-BPM (Information Technology and Business Process Management) by 2028. That is our contribution to the national IT-BPM world map for 2028," said Manalastas.

Currently, the IT-BPM industry in the Davao region has 75,000 employees, hence, the training aims to double its workforce.

The DICT-XI and ICT Davao are also planning to capacitate the other ICT councils in the region to generate jobs, particularly in Tagum, Mati, and Digos cities. (James Raymond Azucena/OJT/ PIA Davao)
