DAVAO DEL NORTE (PIA) -- Three national line agencies have engaged with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte to fast-track the re-greening program of the province.
During the latest edition of the Kapihan sa DavNor, Supervising Environment Management Specialist (EMS) of the Environment and Climate Change Division, Forester Ro-ann Grancho, said the PENRO PLGU has partnered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of Education (DepEd) to widen its area of re-greening coverage.
Through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) of DOLE, beneficiaries in a certain community are required not merely to clean, but to plant trees which are then eventually placed under among the maintenance project sites of PENRO.
Meanwhile, the extension of food-for-work assistance funded by the DSWD is centered on tree planting in cooperation with PENRO LGU, while the PENRO LGU adopts a school to expand its re-regreening projects in tie-up with DepEd.
“Wala gibiyaan sa penro ang tanang re-greening projects, could be regular projects sa PENRO or or in partnership with other agencies tungod naay community partners. (PENRO does not leave behind all its re-greening projects whether these are regulars projects of PENRO or those in partnership with other agencies because we have community partners.),” she said.
She cited the re-greening program of PENRO as a major component of the overall food sufficiency program of the Provincial Government, maximizing the fruit-tree distribution thru the KAAGAPAY (Kausa sa Agrikultura ug Panginabuhian sa Barangay) Program.
PLGU Davao del Norte sustains two nurseries to grow various species of trees and fruit trees in Sitio Salawao in Talaingod and in Tagum City and does not procure seedlings for its re-greening projects, she said. (JMDA/PIA Dvo del Norte)
