DENR 2 holds Caravan cum People’s Day in Quirino Province

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) - - As part of the Philippine Environment Month, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cagayan Valley recently conducted its second leg of the DENR Caravan cum People's Day at San Marcos, Cabarroguis.

The event which aims to bring ENR programs closer to the people is in partnership with PENRO Quirino, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, and Environmental Management Bureau.

In her message, Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan urges the BLGU and MLGU to support programs on forest management.

Highlights of the caravan include awarding of patents to qualified beneficiaries, recognition of uniformed personnel as partners in forest protection, messages of support and commitment signing, dissemination of updated DENR policies and regulations through symposium and one-stop-shop, and distribution of seedlings and information materials.

During Regional Executive Director’s Hour, RED Gwendolyn Bambalan discussed the Seven Policy Direction of the department such as the adoption of “climate risk lens” in national planning and policies; the need to increase the forest cover, the need to enhance the biodiversity and protected areas, the need to improve the quality of water, air and waste management, the need to responsively and sustainably manage mineral resources, and the need to promote effective land management and governance.

Bambalan urged the barangay and municipal local government units to support their programs especially on forest management saying that the DENR now is promoting the concept of growing not just tree planting to ensure that the trees planted will be taken care of.

The regional executive director also said the department is on process of legislating protected areas in the province through the assitance of Representative Midy Cua.

For his part, Governor Dax Cua has assured full support to the DENR programs as he expressed hope for more collaborative programs with the DENR. (OTB/TCB/PIA Quirino)
