SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)– The Provincial Government of La Union, through its Environment and Natural Resources Office, recognized the winners of the 2022 Search for the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest (CSG) local government units (LGUs) in an awarding ceremony held at Thunderbird Resort in this city on June 28.
Twenty LGUs were evaluated in different categories which include the overall Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest Municipality for the first to third class and fourth to sixth class category; Cleanest Bodies of Water for Coastal and Fresh Water category; and Best “Magsidalus iti Arubayan” Barangay Implementer for Rural and Urban category.
Winners of the overall cleanest, safest, and greenest for the first to third class category were Bacnotan, champion; followed by Balaoan and Naguilian for the second and third places, respectively.
While in the fourth to sixth class category, Santol bagged the championship, followed by Balaoan for second place, and Naguilian for third place.
Each of the winners got P1.5 million for the champions; P1 million for the second placers; and P500,000 for the third placers.
In the Cleanest Coastal Water category, Immuki Island in Balaoan was the champion, while Urbiztondo Surfing Area in San Juan and San Carlos Coastal Area in Caba placed second and third respectively.
While in the Fresh Water category, Bulalakaw Falls of Bagulin once again got the championship followed by the Tapuakan River in Pugo as second placer and Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel for third place.
Winners in the cleanest bodies of water, both coastal and fresh waters, received P1 million for the champions, P750,000 for second placers, and P500,000 for the third placers.
For the Best “Magsidalus iti Arubayan” Barangay Implementer for the rural category, Dr. Camilo Osias of Balaoan received the first place, followed by Quirino, Bacnotan for the second place, and Magallanes, Luna for the third place.
In the urban category, the champion was Ubagan, Sto Tomas, while Casilagan, San Juan and Tagudtud, Bagulin were second and third placers respectively.
The champions for the “Magsidalus iti Arubayan” Barangay Implementer received P750,000, while second and third placers got P500,000 and P350,000 respectively.
All the prizes of the winning LGUs are intended for environmental programs and projects, whether a purchase of equipment or beautification purposes.
Moreover, the Search for Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest LGUs awarding ceremony, which coincides with the Environment Month celebration, aims to recognize the efforts of the LGUs in raising awareness of the importance of the environment in people’s lives.
La Union Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David said during her speech, “Para po sa mga nanalo, umaasa po akong ilalaan po natin ang natanggap na premyo sa makabuluhang proyekto para sa ating mga kaprobinsyaan.
