CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PRTI) in partnership with the Isabela State University (ISU) - Ilagan campus recently led the inauguration of the P40 million Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center in this province.

The facility is the first in Northern Luzon and is located at the Isabela State University (ISU) - Ilagan City campus.

DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho Mabborang said the project is constructed under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) for the Inclusive Innovation Textiles Empowering Lives Anew (i2TELA) Program.

Mabborang expressed his thanks to the City of Ilagan as the host Local Government Unit for their receptiveness in the establishment of the said facility in the city.

He said the facility is a micro-scale yarn spinning that aims to produce crafted yarns from blends of natural textile fibers including abaca, banana, bamboo and pineapple leaf, in combination with cotton.

Meanwhile, DOST - PTRI OIC Director Julius Leano said the RYPIC is a micro-scale yarn-spinning facility that can produce 50 kilograms of yarns per day, which is equivalent to 270 meters of handloom fabrics. (MGE/PIA Isabela)
