Schools in Sacol Island benefit from DICT’s ‘Click’ Project

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 6 (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) turned-over tablets to four schools in Sacol Island, Zamboanga City during the National Information and Communications Technology month culmination.

DICT have been conducting programs and projects to alleviate this challenges especially in geographically isolated and disadvantage areas.

One of the project of DICT is the Courses for Literacy in Internet and Computer Knowledge or “Project Click”.

One of the chosen beneficiaries of the project is the four barangays in Sacol Island which is a few meters away from the center of Zamboanga City and only a motorboat is the mode of transformation to get here.

The island is also considered as one of the geographically isolated and disadvantage areas with very limited resources especially in network signal. DICT provided free wifi conection in the area and turned over tablets to four barangays in Landang Laum Elementary School, Landang Gua Elementary School, Pasilmanta Elementary School and Busay Elementary School.

During the National ICT month celebration on June 29, 2023, DICT also provided training course to the students and beneficiaries of the project.

“What we really want to happen is to improve the lives of the Filipinos, that the students can research better because they will have access to the internet,” said DICT Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Camba during her visit in the island.

The Project CLICK shall provide support in promoting digital literacy and cyber hygiene trainings to its project beneficiaries. Furthermore, beneficiaries shall also receive devices in order to complement the training being administered by the project.

Further, the project’s objective is to promote digital literacy by building the knowledge of students and learners in the public school and other public education, learning, and training environments as well as the public clientele for ICT to prepare them to participate and compete in an evolving ICT age and to deliver cyber education and learning content in order to promote cyber safety and security awareness and practices to address relevant stakeholders.
