Kadiwa ng Pangulo helps farmers in Ilocos Sur, yields over P320K sales

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – The Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa conducted during the Dagyaw 2023 held at the Provincial Farmers Livelihood Development Center in this city on July 5 generated sales of over P321,000 for farmers in this province.

Marina Atendido, assistant provincial agriculturist, said “Very successful itong Kadiwa natin, we reached P321,000 sales from the 19 exhibitors na karamihan ay organic practitioners at Kadiwa beneficiaries.”

Agricultural produce such as black rice, tomatoes, banana, and eggplant as well as fishes like malaga, bangus or milkfish, maya-maya, and condiments including Iloco vinegar, fish sauce, and cooking oil were sold at the Kadiwa.

Products of micro, small and medium enterprises like banana ice cream, bagnet, longganisa, and various delicacies were also on sale during the event.

Atendido encouraged other farmers to join the ‘Kadiwa’ and shared that there will be another food and trade fair planned on July 25 as a highlight of the Nutrition Month celebration in the province.

Meanwhile, Rema Lucero, an organic farmer from Cabugao town, said that consumers asked to reserve their products even before the ribbon-cutting of the event.

Their group was able to generate sales of P13,986 at around 11a.m. for the whole-day fair and were able to sell out all their products shortly after.

They sold dragon fruit for P50 to P80 per kilo, black rice for P80, bananas for P60, and tomatoes for P40, which are all organically grown.

She said, “Sulit sa aming farmers itong Kadiwa kasi kami mismo ang nagdadala ng produkto namin, farmgate [prices] talaga, wala nang middleman na pinapasa pasa ang produkto kaya tumataas ang presyo.”

“Being a farmer, malaki ang naitulong ng Kadiwa sa amin, direkta naming naibenta sa tamang presyo ang aming mga produkto. And being an organic farmer or practitioner, nabigyan namin ng tamang pagkain na free from pesticide and free from chemicals ang mga consumer kaya nailalayo natin sila sa sakit,” she added.

She also thanked the provincial officials, the Department of Agriculture and the Office of the Provincial Agriculture for the training, machinery, farm inputs such as fertilizers and seeds, and the programs that they constantly provide.

“Sana po magpatuloy ito at patuloy din po sana ang pagbibigay ng suporta sa aming maliliit na magsasaka para umangat din po ang pamumuhay namin lalong lalo na sa mga nagpapaaral. Sana palagi kaming bigyang pansin para hindi rin kami nalalayo sa ibang bansa, na ang magsasaka hindi dapat minamaliit kasi ang magsasaka po isa sa mga nagbibigay ng pagkain at bumubuhay sa tao sa buong mundo,” Lucero said.
