QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has formally started the temporary closure of their route from Biñan City, Laguna to Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
This, according to PNR, is to allow the construction of the North South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project.
According to the PNR, the last trip of their passenger train from Alabang Station to Biñan was on Saturday night, while its last trip left Biñan at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday and arrived at Alabang Station before at 6:00 in the morning.
It can be recalled that on July 2, the PNR also temporarily closed its route from Alabang to Calamba City, Laguna for the NSCR project, whose construction is expected to take five to six years.
PNR first apologized to the affected passengers and explained that the project is part of the modernization of the country's train system.
PNR estimates that up to 2,000 passengers will be affected by the temporary closure of the Alabang-Biñan route.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has also opened additional routes for operators of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to help the affected PNR commuters in their journey. (PIA-NCR)
