“ This launch is not an isolated project; rather, it falls under a broader mandate set forth by the Bangsamoro Human Rights Act. The establishment of this helpline is indicative of the provincial office’s recognition of the importance of upholding and safeguarding human rights within the province. The BHRC-Basilan Provincial Office, through the helpline, is actively working towards ensuring that all citizens have access to appropriate channels to report human rights violations”, Atty. Namla stressed.
Atty. Namla added that this is also a significant step towards enhanced human rights protection in Basilan as he underscores the BHRC's unwavering commitment to promoting and protecting human rights among the Bangsamoro people, as mandated by the Bangsamoro Organic Law and the Bangsamoro Human Rights Act of 2019.
“ The launch of the helpline was propelled by a combination of legal obligations and the necessity to respond to a concerning situation in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). While the precise statistics regarding human rights violations in the BARMM are subject to ongoing monitoring and assessment, the existence of such violations has been a prominent concern. The helpline represents a proactive approach to combatting these issues, providing an accessible and confidential avenue for individuals to report violations and seek support”, Atty. Namla emphasized.
Atty. Namla urged anyone who needs assistance, has concerns, or wishes to report a violation to make use of this helpline.
“Let's work together to uphold the rights of every individual in our community. Call the Basilan Human Rights Helpline today – because your rights matter, and we are here to ensure they are protected”, Atty. Namla expressed. (NBE/NDR/PIA-Basilan with reports from BHRC-Basilan)
