PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) – A total of 48,210 kilos of garbage was collected in the second episode of the Puerto Princesa City Government's 'Save the Bays' program held in Barangay Bagong Silang on August 12.

According to the Solid Waste Management and Oplan Linis Program, more than 1,000 trash bins or 14 fully-loaded trucks were collected by those who participated in the Scoop Basura Version 2.0 competition which is one of the activities of the program.

Aside from the scoop basura, a ‘mudball throwing’ and coastal cleanup were also conducted as led by Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron along with the city government staff, non-government organizations and other agencies that showed their warm support for the city's environmental program.

The environmental program aims to save the city's shores from pollution and is also centered on the 14th category of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)-- the "Life Below Water" which is the Philippines' commitment to the United Nations.

‘Save the Bays’ was first launched in Brgy. Mandaragat on July 29 and will be launched again for its third episode on August 26 in Purok Abanico Road, Brgy. San Pedro and on September 9 in Cuyito Area (Cruise Port) in Brgy. Pagkakaisa. (OCJ/GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
