Over 1K Ilocos Sur students get educational aid from DSWD

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – Some 1,228 college students of the total 2,030 identified recipients got their educational assistance worth P5,000 each through the Educational Assistance Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Thursday, August 17 at Bantay Gymnasium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

According to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), said recipients are children of farmers and fisherfolks from the first district of Ilocos Sur and the municipality of Santa who were significantly affected by Typhoon Egay.

PSWDO officer-in-charge Rodrigo Llameg said the assistance for the remaining 802 identified recipients from Candon City and all the municipalities of the second district of Ilocos Sur will soon be distributed.

Senator Marcos eagerly pushed for educational assistance as she believes that whatever challenge every parent encounters, especially farmers and fisherfolks, they do their best to send their children to school.

Walang iwanan, walang lamangan,” she added.

Flordeliza Oandasan, the parent of one of the recipients from Santo Domingo town, expressed her thanks to the government as the assistance they received is of great help for her child’s education.

“Agyamankami kenni Senador Marcos para iti daytoy a tulong ta dakkel atoy a makatulong iti panagadal ti annakko. Kasta met kadagiti nadumaduma nga ahensya ti gobyerno para iti agtultuloy a panagitedda ti tulong kadagiti naapektaran ti bagyo (Thank you, Senator Marcos for this assistance as this is helpful for the education of my child. Also to various agencies of the government that continuously provide assistance to the affected families of the previous typhoons),” Oandasan said in an interview. (JCR/AMB/JMCQ, PIA Ilocos Sur)
