DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – About 1,000 seedlings, particularly mahogany and narra, were planted by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)-Pangasinan chapter, together with their stakeholders, on Saturday, August 19 at Mt. Balungao in Barangay San Andres in Balungao town.
This is part of their annual tree planting activity dubbed “Oplan BroadcasTreeing” in support of greening the world.
Jay Miguel Mendoza, president of the KBP-Pangasinan chapter, emphasized their commitment to the environment, stating that KBP members have been a partner of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for over a decade.
“We started planting last May, pero kaunti lang ang naitanim natin. Ngayon po ang best time dahil sabi nila medyo malambot ang lupa. Balungao experiences four major forest fires per year, so this is our time to reforest again,” Mayor Riza Peralta of Balungao town said and expressed her gratitude to the KBP-Pangasinan chapter and volunteer groups for their advocacy.
Carrying their planting tools such as bolo and shovel, the participants joined hands in the planting of tree seedlings.
Among the stakeholders who participated in the said event are the local government unit (LGU) of Balungao under the leadership of Mayor Peralta, Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Region 1 headed by Regional Director Danny Martinez, Cops Rescue Riders, Balungao police, Keepers Flood International, Sonshine Philippines Movement, Mistah Foundation USA, personnel of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth)-Regional Office 1, 702 Taguig, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Female Dorm in Dagupan City, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Balungao, and Barangay Kita Kita in Balungao.
The ‘BroadcasTreeing’ activity dates back to the year 2011 and is conducted annually except during the COVID-19 pandemic.
