LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The first-ever eco-classroom made of eco-bricks is being constructed in the village of Caparispisan in Pagudpud town.
Recently, the North Luzon Renewables (NLR), who initiated this project, partnered with the Department of Education (Deped)-Schools Division of Ilocos Norte as they break ground on the model eco-classroom located at the Caparispisan Elementary School.
As part of NLR’s corporate social responsibility, the eco-classroom is being built using eco-bricks with shredded plastic as one of its components.
Also, it will make use of renewable energy as the classroom will be equipped with full solar roofing.
“This is the first eco-classroom built by the company and this will be the start of building more eco-friendly and renewable classrooms as part of our commitment in helping the community and the schools and in preserving and protecting the environment,” said Raymond Sesuca, NLR Stakeholder Management Senior Manager.
He also assured that the facility is anchored on the classroom standard as mandated by Deped.
With P2 million fund, this eco-classroom is expected to be completed by November this year.
Deped-Ilocos Norte Superintendent Don Balderas said that the groundbreaking ceremony for this NLR-initiated project is a convergence of partners and stakeholders who share the common goal in investing in education.
Being the home of the largest wind farm in the country, the eco-classroom will be built where towering windmills could be seen. (JCR/MJTAB PIA Ilocos Norte)
