MANILA, (PIA) — In anticipation of the upcoming FIBA (International Basketball Federation) World Cup events, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is gearing up to initiate intermittent traffic stops across various main roads in Metro Manila.
The MMDA is also appealing to motorists and to the commuting public to understand the disruptions resulting from the traffic management scheme to be implemented in Metro Manila during the FIBA events.
As outlined in the MMDA's traffic advisory, the concept of intermittent stops entails brief halts for drivers and, redirecting them towards alternate routes to facilitate smooth passage of the FIBA delegates and the convoy of players.
The agency announced that this express lane system will be implemented on the following thoroughfares:
EDSA
Kalayaan Avenue
Diokno Boulevard
Roxas Boulevard
Andrews Avenue
Sales Road
In addition to these roadways, other traffic management strategies will also be implemented along other routes, as specified by FIBA.
To effectively oversee and assist motorists, over 1,300 MMDA personnel will be deployed within the affected roadways in Metro Manila.
The Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan is slated to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup from August. 25 to 30, while the finals will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena from September 5 to 10.
Meanwhile, the NLEX Corporation is urging FIBA ticket holders to take Ciudad de Victoria (CDV) exit during the opening ceremony at the Philippine Arena as it will be enforcing a 100 percent RFID system and there will be, no cash lanes available.
Further, however, the CDV toll plaza (northbound and southbound), including Igulot intersection access via Mc Arthur highway and Gate 3 at Brgy. Bolakan will be closed on Friday, August 25, at exactly 5:30 pm to decongest car volume to and from the venue.
For those who do not want to be inconvenienced of not finding a parking space during the opening ceremony, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will be deploying free 400 Point-to-Point (P2P) shuttle services in the following locations:
PITX Bus Terminal
Mall of Asia Arena
One Ayala Bus Terminal
BGC Market Market Bus Terminal
SM City Megamall
Araneta City
