Palace declares Sept. 11 special non-working day in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Malacañang has issued Proclamation No. 327 which declares September 11, 2023 a special non-working day in Ilocos Norte to commemorate the 106th birth anniversary of the late former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.


As stated, residents in the province are given “full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.”


On behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the late president’s son, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the proclamation on August 23.


The late head of state was born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte in 1917. He attended Sarrat Central School, Shamrock Elementary School in Laoag City, and the Ermita Elementary School in Manila.


He became a lawyer and an interesting politician. He was elected President of the Philippines in 1965 and re-elected in 1969.


He died on Sept. 28, 1989.


With his son, Marcos Jr, there has been a continued legacy of his initial programs such as in agriculture, infrastructure, and poverty alleviation.  (JCR/MJTAB PIA Ilocos Norte)
