BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- At least 12,000 Abrenians with totally and partially damaged houses due to Super Typhoon Egay in July  continue to receive cash assistance under the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

DSWD-Cordillera Information Officer Nerissa Villanueva-Trinidad said that the ECT aims to help typhoon victims rehabilitate their houses that were destroyed during the height of the super typhoon.

“For families with partially damaged houses is P9000 ang binibigay and then for totally damaged houses is P13,500,  so pwedeng pambili ito ng construction materials para i-ayos yung mga nasira,” she explained.

Continuous payout is being conducted in the municipalities of Bangued, Langiden, Lagayan, Luba, San Juan, Tineg, Villaviciosa, Boliney, Bucay, Daguioman, Lacub, Sallapadan, and San Isidro.

The ECT that targets a total of 12,704 Egay-affected Abrenians will extend payout until September 14, 2023 to cater to  unpaid and replacement beneficiaries.

“Tuloy-tuloy pa din naman ang pagpe-payout natin kahit na maulan yun lang we’re taking additional precaution na pagpunta nila dito ay hindi sila delikado,” Trinidad said.

Juana Torres from Palao, Bangued whose house was  partially damaged, is thankful for the assistance that they can use to  buy essential  items that  were lost or damaged during the calamity,.

“Adu met a pakaibanagan na daytoy nga naawat mi sunga yamanin mi ta ada naawat mi nga kasta ta nalayos kami. Kas nalayos, igatang mi ti gamit mi ta pulos awan ti naisalbar mi,” she said.

The DSWD and other government agencies continue to extend aid to calamity-hit families through various programs.

“Tuloy-tuloy pa din yung pagbigay natin ng ibang assistance,  for example yung family food packs and then yung non-food items natin like hygiene kits, kitchen kits and sleeping kits,” Trinidad added.

The province of Abra is among the provinces severely affected by flooding and some landslides due to continuous heavy rains during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Egay  last  July .
