DSWD gears for Supplementary Feeding Program for Ilocos Sur children

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) —The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have started the turn-over of goods to prepare for the 13th cycle of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) for the children in this province.


This annual program of the DSWD aims to provide nutritious meals for children in Day Care centers.


The DSWD Field Office I completed the turn-over of the goods in the first district of the province after the delivery to this city on Tuesday afternoon, September 19 at the Vigan Conservation Complex.

The goods provided are micronutrient powder mix with 15 vitamins and minerals, high-calorie and protein biscuit, and two flavors of the Brown Rice Crisp Bar.


These were handed to day care teachers, who will then follow a schedule and the recipe provided by DSWD for the provision of the goods to the children.


Kristine Jane Florendo, teacher of 33 kids in Barangay IV, Vigan City said, “Maganda itong programa, malaking tulong lalo at alam naman natin na hindi pare-pareho ng pamumuhay (ang mga bata.”

She also said that they regularly monitor the children’s height and weight, and during the previous years the positive changes in the health of the children after the program was evident in the monitoring.  


The DSWD started the turn-over of the goods in the province on Monday, 18 September and will proceed to the towns in the second district and in Candon City until October.


Meanwhile, Mayor Jose Bonito Singson, Jr., who personally supervised the turn-over said, “Maraming salamat sa DSWD, sana patuloy lang iyong pagsuporta nila sa lungsod.”

“Kahit papaano, marami pong mahirap makabangon pagkatapos ng mga kalamidad, malaking tulong maski sabihing biskwit lang para sa mga pamilya lalo na at fortified with vitamins itong mga binigay [ng DSWD],” Mayor Singson said. (JCR/MJTAB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
