SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)— The provincial government of La Union, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), conducted a three-day “Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) sa La Union” at the Old Boy Scout of the Philippines parking grounds in Barangay Sevilla in this city from September 18-20.
Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David led the launching of the KNP on Monday.
This initiative is aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.'s aim to provide affordable prices of goods to the people.
Through the KNP, the marketing of farmers and producers is directed to the consumers.
This cuts the costs for rent and other fees that add up to the suggested retail prices.
The exhibitors showcased local products from La Union including agricultural products like fresh and dried fish, vegetable and fruit crops, handicrafts, groceries, and the vitamin A-rich golden rice by the Philippine Rice Research Institute, among others.
According to Sharon Villoria, officer-in-charge of OPAg, the event is one of the core strategies towards attaining the vision of La Union to be the heart of agri-tourism by 2025 and to sustain agricultural development through agri-preneurship.
Gov. Ortega-David expressed gratitude for the support of participating sellers in this edition of KNP.
“Ang mga benta po ninyo ay oportunidad upang kami at lahat ng taga-probinsya natin ay makakain ng sariwang lokal na produkto ng La Union at mabibili rin po natin at a very affordable price,” she added.
Also featured in the KNP sa La Union is the P25 per kilogram of rice by the National Food Authority and the Department of Agriculture.
According to Jocelyn Briones, a resident of San Fernando City, when she heard about the staging of KNP, more so with the P25 per kilogram of rice, she went straight to the KNP sa La Union venue.
“Malaking tulong po ito kasi sa bayan po, magkano ang bigas doon napakamahal, napakalaking tulong po nito,” she said.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of La Union and the OPAg are set to bring the KNP into the 20 component local government units of the province starting from November 27 to December 22 through the Paskuhang Bayan, an event to render the province’s service to the people in all city/municipalities of La Union.
