DSWD releases over P1million to Iloilo rice retailers

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Eighty-two micro-rice retailers from Iloilo Province recently got a one-time subsidy of P15,000 each under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program—Economic Relief Subsidy (SLP-ERS).

Beneficiaries of this program were affected by Executive Order 39 series of 2023, which establishes a price ceiling on rice throughout the country. They were likewise identified and validated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) before releasing the financial aid.

"We are continuously hoping that after receiving the subsidy, you will still continue to comply with the price cap, especially for rice that is considered a prime commodity," said DSWD-6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Arwin Razo.

Present during the event were SLP Regional Program Coordinator Mary Ann Masculino, Department of Trade and Industry - Regional Director Ermelinda Pollentes and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.

To note, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. placed a price cap on rice in a bid to ease off the increasing price of the staple caused by hoarding and price manipulation.

Moreover, the President mentioned earlier that the price caps is only momentary until plenty supply from local producers and imports are available. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/With reports from DSWD-6)
