DOH, ASH Philippines launch tobacco cessation contest

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas, in partnership with the Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Philippines and Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP), is holding the “Stop and Gain: A Quit and Win Tobacco Cessation Contest”.

This competition aims to motivate smokers to embark on their journey to quit smoking and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

In a press conference, Executive director of ASH Philippines Dr. Maricar Limpin said that the Stop and Gain Contest is one of the ways to intensify the information drive on the country’s various cessation programs.  

“Magandang pamamaraan yan kung sana pinapalawak natin ang kaalaman na meron tayong cessation programs dito sa ating bansa, “Dr. Limpin conveyed.

Limpin said that the contest is open to all previous smokers and vapers who quit their vices since July 2022 or at least six months since the launching of the contest this month.

Individuals interested to join can access the forms at www.facebook.com/ ASHPhilippines2016. All applications will be endorsed to the cessation staff in their respective areas for validation and eligibility verification.

Registration is open from August 8 until October 31, 2023.

Moreover, those who registered for the contest must commit to abstaining from smoking throughout the contest period. Details about the contest mechanics, prizes, and support resources are available via ASH Philippines Facebook page.

Winners will be determined through a raffle draw to be announced on November 22, 2023.

Meanwhile, the DOH-Western Visayas lauded this initiative that bolsters the health of the Filipinos.

“Smoking cessation is a vital step towards a healthier and more fulfilling life. We invite all qualified previous smokers in the province to join thye stop and Gain Contest, take courageous step toward quitting smoking or vaping and avail of the support and resources offered, ” DOH-Western Visayas regional director Dr. Adriano Suba-an said in a press release. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo)
