Vigan City boosts barangay OTOP in Tourism Fair

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — The One Town One Product (OTOP) of various barangays in this city took the spotlight in this year's Barangay Tourism Trade Fair: One Barangay, One Product for the Tourism Week Celebration.


The fair is located at the northern portion of the Plaza Burgos from September 25 to 29.

The City Government of Vigan, through the Vigan Tourism Council, conducted this fair to highlight the city's unique local products which include the bagnet, longganisa, chicharon, lubi-lubi, salapusop, dila-dila, and patupat.


The fair also highlighted non-food products such as red clay jars or burnay, abel iloco, a range of souvenirs from ref magnets, wallets, keychains, broomsticks, and clay tiles, among others.


Crecencio Agati, maker of Vigan tiles and barangay kagawad of Bulala village said, "Talagang tatak na ng Vigan itong Vigan tiles, ito kasi binibili pa ng mga taga-Manila, galing sa clay tapos antigo."

He also expressed his thanks to the city for this opportunity and said that through this, many tourists both local and foreign get to see their products and eventually take interest.


Meanwhile, Ruben Tajo, punong barangay of Purok a Bassit village, said that they are happy to join the fair every year because it helps boost the income of his constituents.


He said, “As early as morning, our products are almost already sold out, especially the dudol, a sweet sticky rice treat which the customers are fond of.”

During the opening of the activity, Vigan City Mayor Jose Bonito Singson, Jr. said, "This is one the highlights of our celebration and this is our way of supporting the livelihood of our Bigueños (people of Vigan), especially after the natural disasters we faced recently."


Further, lawyer Glendale Benzon, Sangguniang Panlungsod member and the Committee on Tourism chairperson, encouraged the public, not only the residents of Vigan, to patronize local products."


Various activities were also conducted for the celebration of Tourism Week such as the tour-guiding competition, tourism quiz bee, gastronomy tour, and passport jingle competition.(JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
