ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 6 and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 6 recently convened to discuss critical matters on the monitoring and performance evaluation of water supply projects in the region.

"As we immerse ourselves in the critical work of monitoring and evaluating our solar water projects, we aim to elevate the partnership between the DPWH and the DENR to new heights. Our shared objective is to provide efficient, sustainable, environment-friendly, and safe water solutions for the benefit of every Filipino citizen," OIC-District Engineer of DPWH Iloilo City Roy C. Pacanan said, as he represented the OIC-regional director of DPWH 6 Sanny Boy O. Oropel in the meeting.

"Water is a critical resource, and we have been discussing it extensively since last year. We aim to internalize water management in line with the President's call for water security. This includes consolidating various agencies involved in water resources management into one operational office under the Department of Water," Duran cited.

The director also emphasized the importance of integrated water management in regional development planning, especially in addressing water shortages and ensuring food security.

"We hope to see progress on this in early 2023. We will seek input and collaboration from various institutions and government-controlled corporations to ensure the most competent management of our water resources," he added.
