PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The city government of Puerto Princesa urges the participation of elected officials and government employees in the launch of a clean-up drive dubbed ‘KALINISAN sa Bagong Pilipinas’ by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday.
The Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) program is described as an initiative to consolidate all efforts of the government to provide a healthy and safe environment anchored on ‘bayanihan’ tradition.
In a DILG memorandum circular no. 2024-001, the program aims to raise awareness and encourage the participation of Filipinos in environmental responsibility, encourage local government units to invest in solid waste management, and set up a recognition system for the cleanest local government units.
It also coincides with the celebration of the Annual Community Development Day, which is considered “very relevant to the cause of this initiative as both foster and promote self-help development.”
The city government expressed its support through the issuance of memorandum order no. 8 through the Office of the City Mayor, calling for the participation of all elected officials, including barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan (SK).

The employees, state universities and colleges, secondary schools in Puerto Princesa, and uniformed personnel were also invited to join, as the activity also falls on the sixth episode of the Save the Puerto Princesa Bays Program in Barangay Bagong Silang.
Activities included in the program are EM Mudball Throwing, Coastal Cleanup, and Scoop Basura version 2.0. Save the Puerto Princesa Bays is also a way to raise awareness among locals about the importance of preserving Puerto Princesa’s bays for future generations. (RG/PIA Mimaropa-Palawan)
