TACLOBAN CITY -- The Department of Education (DepEd) - Leyte Division has recently conducted a face-to-face Training Workshop on Video Lesson Production for Division Expanded Mentors of the said division.
This was based on DM No. 305 series of 2022 issued by DepEd Leyte Division Superintendent. Dr. Manuel P. Albaño.
Held on June 15-17 at the Summit Hotel in Tacloban City as its second phase, the workshop was aimed at gaining deeper understanding on script and scriptwriting, which could convert daily lessons into television (TV) scripts.
The training workshop has likewise demonstrated to the core mentors, the need for TV demonstration style of teaching, and has shown skills in video editing, improving voice lesson production, and enhancing learning delivery and outcome.
The three-day activity was composed of sessions such as Video Lesson: A Supplement to Distance Learning Modality, Writing Script for TV Video Lesson, Essentials in Demonstration Teaching for Video Lesson, and the Principles and Strategies of Video Lesson Production, among others.
The training has required participants to apply and produce a video lesson from what they have learned from each session, as they were grouped into three.
With the integration of sessions on the evaluation of script, evaluation of videos, teacher participants could now have a wider grasp on how a video lesson should be produced, and how an ordinary lesson plan could then be converted into a video script for the video lesson production.
According to DepEd Leyte Division Education Program Supervisor for Journalism and ESP Grace Villanueva, the training workshop has already been conducted in two phases, with 14 participants during the first phase, and 18 for the recent one, all coming from different areas of the division handling various grade levels.
“These 32 trained mentors can now duplicate themselves and can greatly help teachers make video lessons that are based on standards, considering that a lot of video lessons produced by teachers are not in accordance to the DepEd standards,” Villanueva said.
She added, “These trained teachers could now echo to their fellow teachers in their respective districts, what they have learned from the training activities, not only on the knowledge and skills, but more on the teaching attitude, where they could truly appreciate what the division is doing, thereby having the resources of DepEd fully and meaningfully utilized.”
She further said the participants from the two phases will merge for an enhancement workshop, of which facilitators will handle certain group of core trainers to focus on demostration teaching, video editing, scriptwriting, and others.
The video lesson production will then serve as a tool that would foster instructions, may the modality be distance learning or face-to-face classes, through the DepEd Leyte's Curriculum Implementation Division (CID). (GTT/Cielito Virgil Acosta-DepEd Julita)
