QUEZON CITY (PIA) --The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, October 12, 11:00 am reported that the center of Tropical Depression “Maymay” was estimated based on all available data 310 km East Northeast of Baler, Aurora or 245 km East of Casiguran, Aurora (16.6 °N, 124.4 °E )
The center of Tropical Depression Maymay is forecast to move slowly westward or west-southwestward towards the eastern coast of Central Luzon. TD Maymay is forecast to weaken into a remnant low as it approaches the landmass.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted in Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and the extreme northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta) including Pollilo Islands.
TD Maymay may bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Cagayan, the northern portion of Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.
Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps, and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall.
A marine gale warning also remains in effect over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon. Fishing boats and other small seam- crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
Meanwhile, the Weather Bureau also monitored a new weather disturbance at 1,980 km East of Northern Luzon (17.2°N, 140.4°E) which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow or Friday morning.
Considering these weather reports, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to be prepared and take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly susceptible to hazards are advised to follow instructions from local officials. (KAA- PIA CPSD)
