DAVAO DEL NORTE (PIA) -- Classes have resumed, and no casualty nor injury was reported in Davao del Norte where the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that originated in the nearby Davao de Oro, was felt at Intensity V.
A report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) states No damages to any structure and buildings in the municipalities of Carmen, Asuncion, New Corella, Sto. Tomas, San Isidro, Talaingod, and in the cities of Panabo and in the Island Garden City of Samal.
Generally, classes have resumed but there are just a few school buildings that are subject to observation due to minor cracks.
Classes have returned in Tanglaw Elementary and National High schools but students are occupying makeshift classrooms as school buildings are tagged “as not safe to be utilized.”
In the Municipality of Kapalong, classroom buildings in the Maniki Central Elementary School were found to have fresh cracks. Movement of the ceiling of its SPED building was observed, and damage to the three-storey school building of this particular school, was also noted.
Minor hairline cracks were noted in the school buildings in Kapalong National High School.
PDRRMO this morning deployed inspection team in the far-flung barangay Gupitan in the Municipality of Kapalong to check reported damages in school buildings and establishments in the area.
Aside from schools, there were a few establishments in Kapalong that bear noted damages which the PDRRMO Davao del Norte is closely monitoring as it keeps the public aware of possible aftershocks.
On top of the safety inspection and monitoring services that PDRRMO rendered a day after the 6.0 magnitude earthquake, PDRRMO immediately beamed its remote control high definition (HD) cameras towards the coastal areas in the Davao Gulf for possible receding of sea water as an indication of tsunami.
PDRRMO was the first to deliver the public information of No tsunami indication basing on its HD cameras installed at the coastal area in Brgy Busaon, Tagum City, in Brgy Cagangohan, Panabo City and in the Island Garden City of Samal. (JDA - PIA XI)
