Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Abuan said their unit pursued their plan to bring some basic services to Alaska village as it was assessed to be an area that needs help, especially the learners.
“Nakita namin ang pangangailangan ng mga bata rito na less fortunate. Kami po sa Philippine Navy ay naniniwala na ang mga bata ay napakahalaga na bigyan ng atensiyon lalo sa kanilang pag-aaral para makamit nila ang mga pangarap nila sa buhay,” Abuan said.
Nelson DG. Enrique, head of the AFPSLAI Baguio City Branch, said their organization does not only promote savings to its members but also has a commitment to give back to the communities.
“Ito po ay isa sa corporate social responsibilities ng AFPSLAI na tugunan ang pangangailangan ng komunidad. Ginagawa po natin ito at least once in a quarter kasama ang ating kasundaluhan at kapulisan,” Enrique said.
The schoolchildren were given school bags, school supplies, a pair of slippers, toys, snacks, and some kilos of rice.
Teachers at the New Bern Elementary School also received two units of printer and ink supply, bond papers, and bags that will aid them with their teaching under the new normal.
For his part, Aldrin Gagarao, head teacher, thanked the NFNL and the AFPSLAI for choosing their school as the beneficiary of their outreach activity.
“Malaking tulong po ito sa mga bata lalo na ngayong panahon ng pandemya sa pagsagot nila sa kanilang modules. Sa amin namang mga guro, ang mga natanggap namin ay makakatulong din sa pag-print ng modules na madi-distribute sa mga bata,” Gagarao said.
