NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- The provincial government of Biliran is now producing fresh and cheap eggs for local consumption through the efforts of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV) and the Office Provincial Agricultural Services (OPAS).
With funding from the provincial government, locally produced eggs are sold at a much lower price compared to the market price. The smallest kind of eggs, called “pewee,” are sold at P6 each or P170 per tray; medium size at P7 each or P210 per tray; large size at P7.50 each or P220 per tray; extra large at P8 each or P230 per tray; and jumbo at P8.50 each or P240 per tray.

Daily stock of fresh and cheap eggs is available at the Local Economic Development Investment and Promotion Office (LEDIPO) located at the Biliran Provincial Capitol, Brgy. Calumpang, Naval, as well as at the governor’s satellite offices in the eight municipalities of the province.
The provincial egg production site or poultry is located at the Provincial Animal Breeding Center at Sitio Bantilan, Brgy. Bato, Biliran, and is managed by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian under Dr. Suzette Apura in close coordination with the Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services under Julia Sandiford. While sales and marketing are entrusted to the LEDIPO headed by Teofel Ryan Arpon.

Previously, Gov. Gerard Roger Espina disclosed that their 1,000 layers produce 870 eggs every day. But as of this month, their 986 layers lay around 920 eggs, or 30 trays per day, said Teresita Ty, senior agriculturist.
The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian disclosed they have an additional 1,000 heads of two-month-old chicks for layers next year to augment the daily supply of eggs for the entire province.

The province of Biliran used to be dependent on Daan Bantayan in Cebu for its supply of eggs, but sometimes the supply arrives in not-so-good condition or in a spoiled state.
Meanwhile, in consonance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s campaign for cheaper rice, the municipality of Biliran launched this month their Complementary Food Security Program, where newly harvested local rice is sold at their KADIWA Center for P20 per kilo to their indigent constituents.
