Know the Right Words

Know the Right Words

If you are talking to victims of domestic violence, you should learn how to talk to them using validating and supportive statements. You have to convince the victims that the abuse that is happening is not their fault and they have the right to make their choices. Tell them that domestic violence is a crime and should be dealt with accordingly. They must believe they have the right to receive protection and help from their relatives, friends and even the authorities. Tell them there are resources available for them, that there is a way out of their situation, that it is not the end for them. Say there are people who love them and want what is best for them.

If you or someone you know wants to report about incidents of domestic violence, you may contact your Barangay VAW desk or the nearest DSWD office.
