Gov't troops capture NPA hideout in Ifugao

LAGAWE, Ifugao(PIA) -- Government forces scored against  the communist terrorist groups (CTGs) in the province  capturing a  New People’s  Army   hideout  and recovering subversive materials in  barangay Abatan in the municipality of Hungduan.

Operating troops of the 54th Infantry Battalion (Magilas)   captured  an NPA encampment allegedly   belonging to the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya AMPIS (KLG-AMPIS) after a 30 minute gun battle last  June 19.

Recovered were  one M16 assault rifle, seven improvised landmines, three rounds of rifle grenade, two rounds of 40mm grenade launcher ammunition, a hand grenade, blasting cap, detonating switch, an NPA flag, assorted medicines and other items.

These recovered items  were inventoried by the 54IB, Ifugao Provincial Police Office and Ifugao Provincial Crime Laboratory Office to be used as evidence against the CTGs involved in the encounter.

Lt. Colonel Franz Josef Diamante, 54th IB Commanding Officer, enjoined the people in the community to remain vigilant in their surroundings and report the presence of CTGs for their own safety and protection.   He also urged  other rebels  to  surrender and start  new life.

“To the remaining members of the NPA, it is not yet too late to start a new life. Our government has allotted livelihood programs for you and your family. Go back to the fold of the law and live a peaceful life,” Diamante said. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
