PIA leads multisectoral forum on government’s dev’t programs

SAN FERNANDO CITY, June 28 (PIA) --  The Philippine Information Agency-Regional Office 1 (PIA-1) led the conduct of a multisectoral forum on the various peace and developmental programs of the government on Monday via Zoom.


According to PIA-1 Regional Director Jennilyne Role, the forum was organized by the PIA as the lead agency of the Development Communications Support Committee of the Ilocos Regional Development Council.


It was also in coordination with the National Economic and Development Authority-Regional Office 1 (NEDA-1).


“We want to connect with you, and we want to have more information multipliers on ground. Through your partnership, kami po sa PIA at NEDA, gusto po namin na ang lahat ng government programs ay maca-cascade po natin hanggang sa pinakadulong sitio po sa lugar natin,” Role said.

In addition, the regional director said the forum is aimed to instill wider awareness on the shared goals of the different government initiatives with national and regional plans and policies and their importance for the development of the region.


Specifically for the PIA, she said, “Naniwala po kami sa PIA that a well-informed Filipino is an empowered Filipino. It is only by giving the rightful, timely, accurate, and relevant information that our constituents will take part in development and governance.”


Representatives from the National Housing Authority (NHA), National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Department of Health Ilocos Center for Health Development (DOH CHD-1) were invited as resource speakers.

Chris Paul A. Mongalini, senior community support services officer of the NHA, discussed the Balik Probinsiya, Bagong Pag-Asa program; LTC Mario Jose Chico, PA (Ret.) of the NTF-ELCAC talked on the Executive Order No. 70; BGen. Joel Alejandro C. Nacnac, chief of the Human Rights Affairs Office of the AFP shared on the International Humanitarian Law; and Medical Officer IV Eric Sibayan of the DOH CHD-1 presented the COVID-19 updates.


Undersecretary Vicente Agdamag, Deputy Director General of the National Security Council (NSC), graced the event on behalf of NSC Director-General and Cabinet Officer Responsible for Regional Development and Security for Region 1, Sec. Hermogenes C. Esperon, Jr.


“We are happy to be part of this virtual forum and we’ll always support you,” Agdamag said.

A total of 143 media, public information officers, and other representatives from the regional line agencies and local government units attended the half-day event.

On June 30, the PIA is set to conduct another round of forum to be participated in by private sector representatives, farmers' organization, LGBTQ+ associations, religious and youth organizations, cooperatives, and micro, small and medium enterprises in the region. (JCR/AMB/JPD, PIA La Union)
