DOST hands over lab instruments to Kalinga State U

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera (DOST-CAR) recently turned-over equipment to the Kalinga State University Central Science Laboratory (KSU-CSL) for the conduct of perform preliminary test on food and non-food products prior to their commercialization and mass production.

These instruments include micropipette, fat analyzer, benchtop ph meter, pipettor, burette, pycnometer with thermometer, glass funnel, separatory funnel, circulating water bath, oven binder, aluminum dish, desiccator with accessories and dessicant, and bottle top burette.  Theanalytical laboratory instruments  will  be used  to analyze samples of  food and non-food products including acidity, moisture content, alcohol content, nutritional facts, phytochemicals content of plants, among others,  prior to their mass production.

The provision of laboratory equipment. is under DOST-CAR’s “Enhancing Industry Competitiveness through Strengthening the Services of KSU-CSL” project ,  which  has also a   training package component.


DOST-CAR Regional Director Nancy Bantog emphasized the need to decentralize laboratory services to the different provinces in order to provide accessible and continuous services to small players such as the micro, small  and  medium enterprises especially in times of public service adversities.

Meanwhile, Kalinga Lone District Representative Allen Jesse Mangaoang, in his virtual message, said there is no other moving spirit in him than to work for the improvement of the educational institutions.

“If it takes giving my best shot and exhausting my sphere of influence to provide the best ever education for our constituents, I have to do it because closing the literacy gap among our people is a matter of top priority as we want the least, the less and the last to be able to access quality education, whenever and wherever they need it,” he said.

KSU President Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang acknowledged the assistance extended by DOST and Congressman Mangaoang for the realization of the project. He committed   to look after the equipment in order to prolong their use for the benefit of the Cordillera people. He  also challenged the faculty of KSU to be more aggressive in the conduct of relevant researches to maximize the utilization of the laboratory equipment.(JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga with reports from KSU Information Office)
