BUTUAN CITY (PIA) -- A sardine canning factory will soon be established in the municipality of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, its local chief executive said on Tuesday, June 29.
During the Tuesday episode of the Network Briefing News, Mayor Amy Pagaspas said the local government unit is working on boosting its sardine production.
“We are the top producer of sardines in the province. To maintain this, we planned on making a canning factory. The LGU allotted P10 million for this,” she said to the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Sec. Martin Andanar, who serves as host of the program.
The factory will be managed by the town’s Women’s Federation, the mayor disclosed. Further, the LGU is also eyeing on distributing the sardine products locally.
The municipality of Buenavista is a first-class municipality that relies heavily on agriculture and fishery to provide livelihoods to locals. Around 1,000 hectares of land were allocated for farming, with only 800 hectares irrigated. (DMNR/PIA-Caraga)
