CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro PIA) – The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Victoria recently distributed organic fertilizers to contiguous areas of said town.

Recipients of organic fertilizers were farmers from the lake barangays such as Brgys. Malabo, Duongan, San Narciso and Urdanenta.

A total of 60 farmers received 10 bags each of organic fertilizers from MAO, headed by Elmer Cobarrubias.

According to Mayor Joselito Malabanan, the use of organic fertilizer is of great advantage to farmers for it is low-cost and improves soil structure as well as increase its water retention abilities, which benefits the plants.

The Bureau of Soils and Water Management report from its website says that the use of organic fertilizers promotes safe and judicious use.  It also reduces the dependence of vulnerable small farmers on chemical-based fertilizers.  (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
