CEBU CITY, July 1 (PIA) -- Known for the famous Sinulog Festival which draws people from the different parts of the country and even foreigners, Vice Mayor Michael Rama invited everyone to visit Cebu as the city government has expanded the cultural theme of its tourist attractions.
During the Network Briefing News interview hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office Sec. Martin Andanar on June 30, Rama said Cebu City is a heritage site.
"Cebu has many historical sites, but is mostly known for the Sinulog. We are expanding this cultural theme emanating from Cebu City to 'Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo' of the whole province of Cebu,” said Rama.
The vice mayor explained how all 80 barangays of Cebu City are connected through a cemented road and how this enables the people to reach the tourist spots easily and conveniently.
He listed attractions like the Magellan's Cross, Fort San Pedro, Plaza Independencia, Taoist Temple, city hall, Basilica del Sto. Niño, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House, among others.
Outside of the city's center, he mentioned the waterfalls and agriculture in the mountains especially the areas filled with beautiful flower gardens like the famous Sirao Garden dubbed as "Mini Amsterdam.”
He also highlighted the upcoming third bridge, Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, which is currently undergoing construction and is expected to be completed in the 4th quarter of 2021, and expected to be opened to traffic in the 1st quarter of 2022.
"I would like to bring to the attention of the people listening in the world especially in our country, let's promote our domestic tourism because the tourism in Cebu City under Atty. Jocelyn Pesquera and the commissioners, they all are doing their share. Even though there is the pandemic which is quite a challenge, they have gone virtual, unorthodox Sinulog but at the same time, the Tourism Month has been innovative. That is how we will bring people to know,” Rama said.
"Come to Cebu, come to Cebu City, a place that will give you all because the people are very hospitable and religious," he added. (Ileana D. Cortes/PIA7)
