ANGELES CITY (PIA) -- About 100 Angeleño children received nutritional supplements as part of the “Wastong Nutrisyon ang Misyon ni Mayor” initiative of the Angeles City government.
Part of the activity is the distribution of Vitamins A and C supplements, deworming medicines, and nutribuns to kids aged seven years old and below in barangay Anunas as a kick-off program for the Nutrition Month.
City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. underscored that the project, which is one of his priority missions, is geared to end the fight against nutritional deficiencies, and promote an immunized community.
“Just like what I have said then, we [the city government] will be the ones to do it. We will be the ones to go house-to-house in order for us to ensure that Angeleño kids are healthy especially now at this time of pandemic,” he stated.
The city government is eyeing to reach 12, 297 children in 33 barangays for this endeavor.
Also, Angeles city’s two mascots named Laz and Tin were present in the activity as epitome that Angeleño kids are healthy and lively.
“The mascots are also our way of conversing with the parents that nutritional supplements being administered and given to kids by our nutrition scholars and health workers, with the assistance of our Gender and Development Office, are safe and for the betterment of their health,” Lazatin said.
In addition, Lazatin said it is the primary aim of his administration to promote the welfare of the children.
"The monitoring of the welfare of Angeleños will not just start or stop during July, also known as Nutrition month," he shared.
The city government distributed milk to 52,000 children from April until May this year as part of this initiative.
In July 2019, the local chief executive provided free vitamin supplements and deworming vaccines to more than 4,000 children in the city. (CLJD/Jag Lyra D. Costamero-PIA 3)
