CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) -- Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and its partners tapped students across the region as force multipliers in the government’s fight against illegal drugs and terrorism.
In a message during the 1st Semester Student Congress 2021, CHED OIC-Regional Director Maria Teresita Semana said the activity aims to instill in the hearts and minds of the youth the virtue of patriotism and nationalism, and strengthen the campaign against drugs and terrorism.
“It is not enough that you only know academics. You also need to participate and intervene in social issues because we want to develop your whole personality. We want you not only to be intelligent, but also to be responsible, responsive, compassionate, patriotic, and active in order to restore discipline and suppress terrorism and drugs among you,” Semana said.
She also challenged them to continue raising their level of awareness so they can become true companions of their schools and of the government towards achieving a prosperous community.
With this, Semana said CHED and its partners is eyeing to establish institutional and regional Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) chapters to support the advocacy of the government that no student should be left behind in this time of pandemic.
She also cited the need for a whole nation approach to successfully win the battle against terrorism, illegal drugs, and all forms of delinquency.
“To our youth and students, let us not give up in this battle. We need you to advance government programs for you. It is important that you work for a safer and more prosperous community. We are here as government agencies to accompany you. Let us join hands to suppress these social problems,” she said.
Among the initiatives of CHED against illegal drugs and terrorism is the launching of the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Campaign in partnership with the Dangerous Drugs Board.
CHED has also actively partnered with Police Regional Office 3 in its massive campaign on KKDAT, and with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency in its fight against all forms of terrorism.
The event carried the theme “Kabataan sa Bagong Normal (KaBaNo): Kaagapay ng Pamantasan at Pamahalaan tungo sa Maunlad na Pamayanan ng Rehiyon III”. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
