World Bank apologizes to DepEd

QUEZON CITY, July 9 (PIA) -- The World Bank Philippines apologized today to the Department of Education after publishing a report on the poor performance of Filipino students on international assessments the country previously joined.

In a statement, the World Bank said “the report on education was inadvertently published earlier than scheduled” and admitted an “oversight” on their part. The report was temporarily pulled down from their website.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones earlier called on the World Bank to follow proper protocol in releasing its Philippine education study, which “insulted” and “shamed” the country. (MTQ/PIA-IDPD)
