COMELEC voter registration to continue in SurSur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The voter registration process continues at the office of the Commission on Election or COMELEC in Surigao del Sur province effective July 16. This is after Malacañang announced that the province of Surigao del Sur's quarantine classification is to be downgraded from Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) to the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until July 31 of the current year.

It can be recalled, the acceptance of applicants to register the qualified voters across the province was temporarily suspended, after the entire province was placed under MECQ from June 16 to July 15.

In an interview, lawyer Ernie Palanan, Provincial Election Supervisor, revealed that their office will accept applicant/s for voter registration in the upcoming elections in 2022.

This includes the event to conduct satellite registration, where COMELEC personnel will visit the barangays to accept applicant/s for voter registration.

Palanan added that they will also provide more information for their clients regarding satellite registration schedules, including the minimum health protocols while still in the pandemic period due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He also called on individuals who have not yet registered to visit the COMELEC office located in each municipality or city in the province and bring with them the necessary documents needed.

According to him, the process of accepting voter registration will run until the month of September 2021. (NGB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
