Navotas reimposes 24-hour curfew for minors

MANILA, (PIA) -- Navotas City has reimposed its 24-hour curfew among constituents aged 17 years old and below following the COVID-19 resurging transmission risk in the northern metro city, Mayor Toby Tiangco announced on Sunday.

In the previous month, the OCTA Research team, the experts studying the pandemic in the country, tagged Navotas City as a Metro Manila local government unit (LGU) with the "lowest" incidence rate at 2.25% per 100,000 population for recording the "fewest newest cases per day" or average daily attack rate from June 25 to July 1.

Citing the epidemiological surveillance system report of COVID Kaya, Mayor Tiangco, however, shared the setback of his local government after documenting the highest two-week growth rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) at 105.06% as of July 18.

The Navotas executive also reported that the positivity rate in the city has increased by 4% from the 2% status quo the city inclines to maintain and further decrease.

In an online post, Tiangco addressed the general public of Navotas, emphasizing the urgent need to reimpose the said ordinance anew with the aim of not just saving lives but also the livelihood of Navoteños.

“Lahat tayo, gusto nang mamuhay nang normal. Walang mga pagbabawal. Malaya ang galaw. Pero sa panahon ngayon, importante ang ating pakikiisa dahil buhay at kabuhayan ang nakataya. Protektahan po natin ang isa’t isa at gawin ang magagawa para matapos na ang pandemya (Every one of us wants to live freely and normally with no restrictions. However, our situation today entails unity for the sake of saving lives and livelihood. Let us protect each other and take part in putting an end to the pandemic),” Mayor Tiangco said.

Apart from the 24-hour curfew, Navotas City is also enforcing a travel permit requirement to individuals who will traverse and have traversed areas outside the NCR Plus or Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna, towards lessening the susceptibility of the locale in terms of community transmission.
