MANILA, (PIA) -- At least 15,000-strong security personnel will be deployed during President Rodrigo Duterte's State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 26, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Guillermo Eleazar said on Friday.
Although no security threat to the President's final SONA has been monitored, so far, Eleazar said at least 15,000 members from the PNP National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Armed Forces of the Philippines Joint Task Force National Capital Region, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, among others, will be ready for deployment around the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City and nearby areas to "maintain peace and order."
The PNP chief said among the considerations in finalizing the security measures include the COVID-19 situation and the emergence of the highly contagious Delta variant, however, he assured the public that they were ready to respond for any eventuality.
The NCRPO, for its part, said it will use body-worn cameras to help monitor the movements of suspicious persons who may be planning to disrupt the SONA.
Eleazar, meanwhile, asked for the public's cooperation, and urged groups planning to stage mass actions to conduct their activities online. (PIA-NCR)
