QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a 63% drop in crime rate during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration, said PNP Police Chief General Guillermo Eleazar.
“[Sa] crime prevention natin, for the first five years nitong administrasyon ng ating Pangulong Duterte pag kinumpara mo ang krimeng naganap compared to the first five years of the previous administration bumaba ito ng 63%, (Under crime prevention, during the first five years of the Duterte administration there was a 63% decrease in crimes committed compared to the first five years of the previous administration,” ) Eleazar said during the Pamana ng Pagbabago Pre-SONA special coverage hosted by PIA Director General Ramon Cualoping III.
He emphasized that the strengthened implementation of existing ordinances in all communities as well as the aggressive campaign against illegal drugs following President Duterte’s directives in 2018 contributed significantly to the decrease in crimes committed.
The PNP Chief said the data comprised a decrease in prevalent crimes such as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, carjacking, motorcycle, and other vehicles.
Eleazar reported an 81% increase in crime clearance efficiency and 86% increase in crime solution efficiency, which are among the significant legacy of the Duterte administration.
Guillermo urged the public to continue respecting, trusting, and having confidence in the police force to perform effective service in maintaining peace and order. (ARR/PIA-IDPD)
