MANILA, (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DOH) has placed eight areas in Metro Manila under Alert Level 4 due to the high number of COVID-19 cases.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Friday said under Alert Level 4, healthcare utilization rate (HCUR) in the cities of Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Muntinlupa, San Juan, Taguig, and Quezon City, as well as the Municipality of Pateros, are all higher than 70 percent and have been classified as moderate- to critical-risk.
“Alert level four areas are those whose risk classification have reached moderate to critical risk and whose utilization rate of either their total COVID-19 or ICU bed utilization are more than 70 percent,” she said.

Vergeire said, however, that the highly transmissible Delta variant had been detected in all cities in Metro Manila.
“These alert levels will give us triggers what we need to do and what our flagged areas are,” Vergeire said.
Aside from Metro Manila, 11 other regions were placed under alert level 4, which required granular lockdowns, active contact tracing efforts and COVID-19 testing, among others.
The health official said the Philippines now averages 8,284 new COVID-19 cases per day from July 31 to Aug. 6. (PIA-NCR)
