MANILA, (PIA) -- Yes for Peace – Bayanihan ng Bayan officials have lauded the prompt action by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Guillermo T Eleazar in bringing to justice the alleged perpetrators of the kidnap-slay against a Muslim Filipina online seller in Nueva Ecija, some 182 km. northeast of Manila.
“We sincerely thank PNP Chief Eleazar for personally committing to facilitate the investigation and for the swift process that ensued,” Ernesto Angeles Alcanzare, Yes for Peace lead organizer said.
Nadia Casar, was a simple online jewelry seller who trusted and agreed to a meet-up with her clients to clinch the deal and earn some money to tide her family over during the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 35-year-old Casar’s remains were found burnt, stuffed in a sack, and buried in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija early this month.
As soon as news that a Muslim woman was raped, mutilated and burned by her supposed clients, Ustadz Fahad Sultan Abdullah, national coordinator of Yes for Peace immediately volunteered to look into the case.
Upon the guidance and close supervision of Yes for Peace Secretary-General Yusoph J. Mando, a Commissioner of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), Abdullah contacted Nasar’s family to extend whatever assistance they may need.
Mando instructed Abdullah to do everything that can legally be done, “We are not fighting only for the rights of Muslims but of all Filipinos to peace.”
An indignation rally among relatives and neighbors of Casar was organized to call on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for justice and to condemn the perpetrators of the crime.
"Indeed, the crime was gruesome. Ashes and unburned remnants of the victim’s body were discovered in Nueva Ecija after the perpetuators themselves pointed to it," Mando said.
"To make matters worse, the crime was reportedly perpetuated by active members of the PNP from different police stations in Nueva Ecija who surrendered one by one," he added.
While appreciating the concern of those who organized the rally, Mando dissuaded all others from organizing similar activities that can inflame sentiments and emotions, “Let us use the proper means in seeking justice and not be overwhelmed by our emotions that destabilizers can and will capitalize on to put blame on authorities that are doing the best they can to solve the case and put those guilty to the bar of justice.”
Soon after, a meeting between Eleazar with Casar’s family was arranged by Abdullah through PNP Internal Affairs Service.
Eleazar committed a fast, clean and thorough investigation into the incident to see to it that the perpetrators are brought to justice, “Gaya ng una nating pangako, personal nating tututukan ang kasong ito upang maibigay natin ang nararapat na hustisya sa pamilya (Like our pledge earlier, we will personally monitor the case to ensure that justice would be rightfully given to the family).”
“The five policemen were immediately relieved of their duties and will summarily be dismissed from the service this coming September,” the no-nonsense PNP chief declared.
"Kung meron mang bitay ay dapat yan ang ihatol sa kanila (If there ever were capital punishment, it should have been metted to them)," he added.
“We hope and pray that General Eleazar’s actions will be the norm of the PNP in the future. There is no room for such rogue persons in the ranks of the PNP,” Alcanzare said.
“Policemen are supposed to be protectors of the people and should not even entertain the idea that they can commit a crime and get away with it by trying to cover it up by burning the remains of their victim,” he added. (PIA-NCR)
